Hi Cecil,
Recently I had read some books
and I am confused with some
colours relationship with
the five elements. I hope that
you can
enlighten me on that.
For the colour brown, is this
the colour of wood or earth
element ?

In general, the colour brown should be considered as wood element. Both brown and green are considered = wood element.
I can quite understand that some would argue that " brown " can be seen as the colour of earth. But, overall, it should still belong to (in my opinion brown = wood).

Quote
For the colour of bright
yellow, is this the
colour of gold or earth? Some
books say that
bright yellow is gold and pale
yellow is earth.

Yes, Yellow colour can be quite subjective as it can either be looked at as gold or earth.
I tend to agree with what you had mentioned. However, this is can be a very subjective topic.
Where possible, if one is not sure, it is best to use WHITE = metal element.
For example, if one tries to enhance a room or a home with metal element, it would be best to paint the walls WHITE (to represent the metal element) rather than use bright yellow.
When we look at gold i.e. 99.999 percent gold it is difficult to mould and wear and usually other metals are added to harden it. Here, the colour of the gold i.e. 18K may not be the same colour as pure gold.
It is very difficult to paint a wall in gold. Thus shades of yellow or bright yellow... is very subjective.

For purple, what is the
element related to
it?

Purple, pink and red are usually associated with the Fire element.

Quote
Lastly, can you advice me what
are the colours that is
related to fire beside red and
pink, yellow and beige that is
related to earth.

As mentioned above, purple, red and pink are related to the fire element.

This is because I am a weak
earth person and the pillar of

that I need this colours to
help me.
Thanks a lot

Enquiry on Salt water curehttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/12079-enquiry-on-salt-water-cure/

This was one of the links, I mentioned .....

Posted in: Discuss :: Free Advice (General Feng Shui)
Posted on: Thu, 25 Feb 2010, 14:18 PM,

These are some considerations:-

1. Feng Shui cannot be done by remote control. For example, moving to a new home say in US; does not affect things that happen in Singapore (sorry to hear about your brother's demise).

2. Feng Shui or one of it's major schools: Compass School comprising the Eight House and Flying Star are both compass based. However, in real life situations; some other forms of magnetic influence can over-ride the Feng Shui.

2.1. For example, in real life situations, there are indeed cases of hauntings. Where, part of a geomancer's occupational hazard is to meet such things once a while. For example, our tools like the Luo Pan with it's compass needle will spin around...

2.2. Around 8 years ago, one gentlemen called me up and asked me to Feng Shui his home in Haig Road: one of the blocks and he was staying at 2nd storey. His flat was converted from 3 rooms to a 6 room flat by the government. And this flat was vacant for around 1 year. The old owners left two green Chi Lin (Two Fu Dogs figurines) and one Quan Yin (Goddness of Mercy) figurine in the home.

2.3. This new owner had no heart to throw these three figurines away ... and decided to house it in a display cabinet looking towards the main entrance door area.

2.4. He has young children. And he said that when he moved in; his two children often got dreams of being suffocated (or suffocation). And his eyes ... have those "dark rings" ... not those cosmetic ones but those having had a house posessed sort of thing.

2.5. Originally he thought that it was due to someone commiting suicide and falling down and hit the head against the concrete railing just before his main entrance door area.

3. Actually, it was someone who had died at a funeral at the void deck; and this person; chose to live in the vacant home (1 year vacant). And this family of four came to "trespass" in his new home. This entity hid in the Quan Yin figurine.

4. In the past, I have mentioned that there were other situations where such entities does hid in vases etc...

5. If in doubt never bring home any antique furniture - if we don't really know it's history or especially photos and glass crystals.

6. Drawing a parallel from what you had written; although the items are of sentimental value of sort; unless one is able to "check" these items to see if they are clean or not; it is very hard to guess whether if any such objects bring bad luck or not.

7. In the past, another case in mind was: government wants back the land; grave had to be exhumed; the grave digger found skeleton and a black button. The grave digger gave it to the grandson who is only 5 years old and was present at the grave... After doing so; the grandson cried continously.. and ritual was done .. and everything went back to normal. ..

8. In your case; to reduce the string of problems; the most common Chinese custom is:-

8.1. Seriously consider not holding at all any belongings of your brother. Best method is to wrap items in clean newspaper and dispose of the items in the regular trash bins. Best not to give these items away.

8.2. Purchase assorted flowers and if possible 3 limes - cut in 4 quarters (last resort is lemon x 3), get e.g. a plastic bowl. For all family members especially yourself and your partner; after bathing, pour the water with the assorted flowers and 3 limes EACH. You can collect the items and discard them.

8.3 Avoid going into the bathroom for the NEXT THREE hours.

8.4 Best is that the male breadwinner do it one say Day 1; and then female person next day or at least 5 hours later if the same bathroom are used.

8.5 Best timing for this activity is between 7am to 9am and 11am to 1pm. If working do this on a non-working day especially Saturday or Sunday.

(Not necessary for your son or daughter).

8.6 If need be, repeat this flower bathe one more time - one month later.

8.7 This time round - it would be nice if the flower bathing activity (NICE-to-do) on a full moon day or on the 1st or 15th lunar day of the month.

8.8 Hopefully when your brother "passed away"; he was not hand-cuffed by the police. (Even after death). It is good that relatives in Singapore could approach a temple in Singapore. In my opinion; by far the better temple is the Quan Yin temple at Queens Street - (Godess of Mercy). Family members there should direclty buy the flowers and lime from that temple to do this flower bathe exercise in Singapore. Of course - this option is not applicable given the distance between US and SGP.

9. For those who have an altar at home; a Chinese Luo Pan can be placed "hidden" below the altar or altar drawer immediately below the figuirine (but the needle alignment unfortunately should be done by an expert). Some place the luo pan vertical but again - must seek advise from an expert as it is far more trickly with the vertical placement.

Salt Water Curehttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/5965-salt-water-cure/ For the earlier salt water cure if it is not covered, leave it in an open area. Avoid placing it in an enclosed area.
Salt water with copper (An Ren Shui) is consider ancient technology, ionizer bulb is a great idea.

I will consider using plants to purify the air, taking the time to care for living things will also nurture good character for example like patience...

Character development and enhancement are also part of FS isn't it?

FS is nature

This tells me that you are a
Weak Water because of too
little Water (7%). Your
element is born in a season
which is makes Water Element
Extremely Weak. Thus,
influencing the element
strength of the other five
element elements. The
percentage of each element is
considered after considering
the seasonal strength and the
number of that element
present.
Thus, your favourable elements
are Metal (21%) and Water (7%)
Elements. Fire (31%) is your
wealth element. However, as
you are a Weak Water, you
first need to be stronger in
order to control your wealth
element. Based on the
percentage of the Five Element
of each of your favourable
element. You should attempt to
enhance the favourable element
with least percentage,
followed by the favourable
element with the next lowest
percentage.
As Weak Water, your favourable
elements are Metal (21%) /
Water (7%) .
Water (7%) is your most
favourable element.
Metal (21%) is your next most
favourable element. As you
have sufficient amount of
Metal, you will benefit more
by having more of your other
favourable elements. Your
unfavourable elements are
Earth (39%) / Wood (0%) / Fire
(31%).
Earth (39%) is your most
unfavourable element. As you
have too much of Earth, it is
best to avoid it having too
much more.
Fire (31%) is your next
unfavourable element.
Wood (0%) is your least
unfavourable element. You have
a very unbalanced Five Element
distribution. Often, this
produces signs of a person
with several possible health
problems.
You have 0% Wood element. This
often signify possible Health
related problems to the Liver,
Bile and Spleen. The ideal
balance of each element is
generally 20% of each element.
However, it is difficult to
achieve exactly 20% of each
element. This is because it is
difficult to know exactly how
much of each element you have
at any point in time. So as
long as you have more of your
favourable elements, you will
improve your balance and
harmony.2. If you are
referring to the sample above;
for the Chinese; if the parent
or grand parent visit a
geomancer, the geomancer will
select a Mandarin name; in the
above example; appropriate to
the above Sample person.2.1.
Using the above chart as a
guide to help select a new
born's name or for someone
wanting to change their name
mid-way in their life is the
main purpose for the above
chart.3. As all Chinese
Mandarin characters can be
classified to one of the five
elements. Thus, in general, it
is preferred that the new born
or Sample person's name does
not contain an element related
to Earth as he already has too
much earth element = 39%
followed by 31% fire4.
Frankly, this is the real
purpose or one of the other
major uses of the above chart.
Other than of course
identifying what health issues
the person may most likely
have in the near future.5.
Sorry, for other races, there
is no known precedence other
than (perhaps? not possible) a
mandarin name? This is out of
the question.6. However, what
is most useful and can be
applied universally is per
attached, and a sample section
is shown below:-

Is the WuWang [ WuHuang ] or Flying Star #5 = FIVE YELLOW cure applicable for everyone?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/11822-is-the-wuwang-wuhuang-or-flying-star-5-five-yellow-cure-applicable-for-everyone/ image.png.7c4c7272c37f2ac19e683be809db71a7.png

FIVE YELLOW

These are some of the considerations:-

1. Frankly, it is so easy to ask someone else: " it is too risky " to stay in THIS BEDROOM.

2. You have correctly coined it "risks". Everything we do, we have to accept some risks.

3. In practical sense, many of us don't own a home with "x" number of bedrooms. Many in fact, have so few bedrooms. And just asking a family not to allow family members to sleep in a room is close to "kicking" them out of the home!

4. Of course, one can say that it is much better than being an "eunuch". But hey, ifthe family has all "girls-team" this statement becomes irrelevant.

5. In my life-time; I have noted comments by some clients who had their homes Feng Shuied before. One "culture-shock" was that some were even told never to use themaster toilet!

6. My GOD! Isn't this worst than being an eunuch (for the male breadwinner) who is suppose tooccupy say the master bedroom?

7. One of the dreaded coloursespeciallyfor a bedroom is "BRIGHT YELLOW".Thus one could reduce the incidencealso by avoiding "warm light" vs "cool daylight" lamp.

8. Risks are inherent in our life!

9. Usually, Feng Shui is not a "doom-all" neither is it a cure all! Everything or every risks cannot be borne on the shoulders of blame on Feng Shui.

10. The main blame is also on human (man factors) like healthy exercise; not staring the computer screen all day long.. And not about all the "rich" food that we consume.

11. Commonsense things like: space clearing; cleaniness in the bedroom; personal hygiene counts. Positive, non-duress or stress - from work can also affect one's health.

12. Modern inventions like air-cleaners or such cleaners cum ionizer's does wonders.

13.If at home, often  open windows to let fresh air come-in.

Morale of the story? I may consider asking the person who recommends me to "shut-down" my master toilet to become an eunuch.

I will challenge him - are you man enough to use the sissors to "cut your joy-stickoff? By the way (BTW); my policy is one for one exchange. You bring one of those; I give you one of those play stations! Fair enough?

Also, I see that "perfume" is under the "metal" professions. Does this include make-up and beauty products?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/18975-also-i-see-that-perfume-is-under-the-metal-professions-does-this-include-make-up-and-beauty-products/ Need to confirm the elements for make-up and beauty products. Is that Metal since it perfume was listed as Metal? Or is it more Water element since make-up and beauty seems more healing/cover up etc which seems more like Water element to me.

--

Also, I see that "perfume" is under the "metal" professions. Does this include make-up and beauty products?

Will have trouble justifying metal most of the time.

However in the past many beauty products use titanium oxide (dioxide) …for whitener.. Thus main reason why metal

But most such products come from earth. So much easier to justify as earth element.

Water can justify if a make up artist. As artists can be considered as water.

So long as later asked, we can justify some sort of opinion is good enough.

Okay thanks!

This is a reasonable reply or response….

“Perfume is listed as metal because it often in the past many beauty products uses titanium oxide for whiter or other mineral products which is Metal element related. So it all depends on the how you define the job scope or product.

In terms of make-up and beauty products. If you are a make-up artist, then I would consider that more Water element as it is also an art to put on make-up that can dramatically change your appearance.

As for beauty products in general, they related to human cosmetic so may be more earth element related. If basic cosmetic product I would say Earth is probably better. As some minerals are earth based.

All depends on how you define the element related to that job scope/job industry. Sometimes it is a combination of two different elements.”

Does christmas tree has good feng shui?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/12224-does-christmas-tree-has-good-feng-shui/Sorry your question is very general.
These are some considerations;-
1. Is the tree inside a home or outside of a home?
2. Under symbolism in Feng Shui, a Christmas tree is like an "UP" arrow. To some it looks like progress.
3. Many Christmas trees need little or no maintenance. For example, the bougainvillea needs constant trimming and depending on it's species many of it's species have nail hard torns - unlike soft "needles" of a Christmas tree.
4. Under Flying Star Feng Shui; one has to be more carefull of sectors with star #3 and often a tree (or any other tree) is not favourable.
5. If Christmas trees are potted; it does not grow too large or too tall. Even if it grows quite tall; it is not as imposing as a matured Mango tree which can extend its foliage very wide; making the area below it very very yin or dark. Of course a Christmas tree grown on the grown can equally mature but in my opinion far less "real estate" space taken than say a mango or rambutan tree or a chiku tree (locally)

Understanding lucky / favorable element + Case Study of it applied under Ba Zi Feng Shuihttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/12647-understanding-lucky-favorable-element-case-study-of-it-applied-under-ba-zi-feng-shui/
In my opinion, from my personal understanding:
1. To many, the subject of Marketing may seem exactly the same or identical to Sales;
2. But if one has studied the fundamentals of Marketing and in detail; marketing is usually one level before sales.
2.1. In Marketing, one studies not about the bird or the bees but for those who have studied the subject it is about the cows and stars etc....
2.2. Here, there is a difference between being a Marketing manager vs a Sales person.
2.3. A marketing manager for example; recommends and sets prices, the type of product strategies for the company. A marketing manager may use market research information; and direct vs indirect marketing programs. And he monitors the projected sales etc...A marketing person also deals with advertising for the company. And may even be in-charge of a TEAM of Sales-person.
2.4 Thussome marketing person or manager is like an invisible hand running his sales team. He may not need to get his hands dirty.. demonstrating products or trying to close a sale.
If we view a marketing person (not a hawker): he/she belongs to the water element.
3. But, if one is given products to sell, and is tasked to "sweet talk" others into buying our company product. Then he/she belongs to the fire element.
4. Of course, if one becomes a Jack of all trades: have to do both marketing and sales (one man operation) type of person then his/her job is now both water and fire element.
5. Thus if one is tasked to sell a type of vacuum cleaner and go house to house: then this is a pure sales person. And not to be confused with a Marketing man.

Do house natal stars change in period nine?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/17749-do-house-natal-stars-change-in-period-nine/ hi Cecil,

i live in a period 8 house and have acquired the chart of changes  that appear in 2024 for period nine for a NW2 house. Do the natal stars on a period 8 house change in 2024, or do they remain the same and have new influences coming In?  Also, I’ve read that 2’s and 7’s will be different in period nine. Could you please explain how the 9 stars will change in influence during period nine?

thank you for considering my two questions.

Five Elements Concept: Wind considered as one of the elements?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/16234-five-elements-concept-wind-considered-as-one-of-the-elements/ Five Elements Concept: Wind considered as one of the elements?

No. Although Wind is considered as one of the two higher-level concept of: Wind + Water. "Thus much higher in status than Metal, Water, Wood, Fire or Earth...

Fire element (red, pink or purple) supports Earth (yellow, cream or beige)

These blocks of flat at Yishun has a harmonious blend of these Colours.

No wonder, even with maroon red; it looks really nice.

Cure for water drain in the back of our house ?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/15743-cure-for-water-drain-in-the-back-of-our-house/ I bought a house one year ago. I did not know but this house has an underground drain in the garden which is in the back of our house.  This drain helps to lead  an underground  water flow, not to go into the house. Since I came in this house, I got bad health issues for me and my kids and I got a lot of legal court issues and money troubles. These troubles are painful, I wish I could move to another house ! maybe not everything is related to the drain but I would like to try something.

I know there is an ancient feng shui formula that consists to flip the front of house to the back of house. I would like some advice on the matter.

Thanks !

is waterfall in a wedding good or bad?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/14728-is-waterfall-in-a-wedding-good-or-bad/

In my opinion, these are some considerations:

1. The idea is that one is not married to the waterfall but rather married near-to a water fall.

1.1. One would be concerned if one is married to a waterfall. But as this is not a permanent situation; and so long as the waterfall does not interfere with the wedding e.g. water from the fall splashing towards persons or food; then generally Ok.

1.2. Or if the noise of the waterfall virtually drowns the ambience and interferes with the announcements and activities of the wedding.

2. Most of the above has to do with common sense.

3. Auto-suggestion and self-fulfilling prophecy : always check with one's elder's first. For example a grandma (matriarch) to see if she has any taboos if any). If no, then, the road to having a wedding, here sounds better.

4. Did you consult a "crazy" geomancer. If you had consulted a geomancer who practises kindergarten ba zi; clue is where the geomancer tells you or your partner that he/she is fire person and to avoid water etc etc... then if you had encountered such a person; choose to believe or not to believe their words.

5. In fact, I have been to weddings overseas that are near to (man made waterfalls etc..)

6. And there are even those who got married wearing suba diving gear in a large tank... etc..

Five Elements concept: circle represents metalhttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/14009-five-elements-concept-circle-represents-metal/

Under the five elements concept: although gold colour represents the metal element. But often, gold may also look like yellow.

Thus if a room or sector particularly has nasty #5 bad yellow; yellow colour is not ideal for that room.

And on the safe side; try to avoid anything that may possibly look like yellow in a sector.

In this case, this yellow globe can look like yellow even if it is "gold".

Colour of gift to match one's best elements?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/13731-colour-of-gift-to-match-ones-best-elements/These are some considerations:
1. The main consideration is based on cultural sensitivities (if any).
2. Other than that; why is there a need to beholden to one's favourable or unfavourable element. This does not make sense?
3. For example, take an example of a 1 or 2 carat diamond. You think a girl friend who's element is unfavourable to diamond would refuse it.
4. Please note that this area has nothing to do with Feng Shui or what ever.
5. Given a gift is not like one is fixed or glued to the gift.
6. Please don't be one of the very first to be obnoxious with such things.
7. There are more important things in life than such "peanuts".

Which Finger represent which Element ?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/13683-which-finger-represent-which-element/These are some considerations:
1. Chinese has it's own palmistry. And often we look at the whole picture and try to figure out an entire hand and categorise it to one of the five elements.
2. Thus a hand with pointed fingers and pointy hands is considered as a fire element.
2.1. While a squarish /rectangularish hand is considered as an earth element etc...
3. My website: http://palmistry.net has some interesting information on the hand.
3.1. In the past, the most respected doctors examined hands and colours etc ... thus this resulted in several well known doctors who were well versed in hand reading. As one of the key elements is that it can tell the health of a person. By looking at the colour (blood flow) and even the growth of finger nails.
4. In Chinese acupuncture, different fingers are associated with different body organs. If you are deeply or seriously into it than you may have to look at sites that specialise in acupuncture.
5. Otherwise, what you mentioned is related more to the India concept of each finger belonging to one of (YOUR) elements.
5.1. For example: in your Indian system: the thumb is suppose to represent the fire element. While the Index finger belongs to the "AIR" element. In Chinese five elements concept there is no element as in "AIR". While the third finger in your system is considered as the Earth element.
5.2. And your little pinkie or little finger is the water element. Although I am well versed in many areas, I choose not to comment on areas not within my specialty. I know it is there, but perhaps, not enough to discuss further on them.
6. Thus frankly, if you need more answers to your Indian system, then you may have to search elsewhere. As the key ingredient of the Chinese system is based on the Five Elements concept. While your system has some elements similar, but some are not directly in our vocab. Thus difficult to link the two.
6.1. For example,I cannot simply link two different systems one from the "West" (India) and one from the "East" (China). Maybe, Buddhism is different as it was brought from the West (India) to the East (China). But along some line, we (India and China) had evolved somewhat differently. Even though there is the Vastu principles.

From a Ba Zi point of view, the auspicious or inauspicious date(s) are calculated in relation to one's Chinese zodiac sign.
In addition, human factor like feel good or not so good.. can also affect one's bearing. Thus in doubt, can or should postphone it.

Five Elements - Metal and Earthhttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/12732-five-elements-metal-and-earth/

1. Many of us are led into the believe that we must classify an item into only one element else; it was felt that it will be totally wrong; if an item was classified into say: Metal-Earth element. Or rather the square peg in a round hole mentality.

2. Really, what is wrong with classifying an item into more than one element.

3. For simplicity; as you had mentioned; in GENERAL jewelry is classifed as metal element because in most instances; it is made up of some metal. For example standard wedding ring needs some metal to hold it together. Whether a gem is to be embedded or not is another story.

4. In many of the past forum messages; I had mentioned that today; an occupation can even contain several elements:

4.1. The industry one is in e.g. Banking (Metal)
4.2. And the core job one is in; say Marketing (Fire).

5. So what is wrong in saying that this person's career is: Metal-Fire combination.

2011 Salt, and water , and coin curehttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/12478-2011-salt-and-water-and-coin-cure/These are some considerations:-
1. Scientific or Hocus Pocus Fung Sway?
1.1. Scientific Feng Shui is about e.g. plotting a Flying Star chart to either enhance good qi or negate or neutralise bad qi.
1.2. Frankly, without drawing up the above, chart, might as well then go the route of Hocus Pocus Fung Sway.
2. Over-eating
2.1. In my opinion, placing a salt cure, here, there and everywhere is like a case of over-eating.
2.2. In the long term over-eating is unhealthy.... eat moderately... please.
3. Modern vs Ancient
3.1. In ancient times; an open jar of salt, water, copper coins is reactive... suppose to create ions...
3.2. In modern times; we now know of ions: both positive and negative.
3.3. Nowadays, there are such things as ionizers to clear the air; one of the most popular brands is from Japan = Sharp.
4. Do you know that an open top salt water cure should be placed in a well ventilated place? As the chemical reaction would give off "fumes" even if it is minute...
5. Seriously, I can't image a house full of "open top" (no covered lid) salt water cure all over....
