Hi,

Personally, I normally do not advise any one to changea name whereever possible. This is because the overall effort and hassle to effect a name change can sometimes make it not worth the while. Especially, if the name luck isn't going to be that very much better.

In order for a name change to be fully effective, you need to have as many people (especially your friend / relative) know about this name change so that they will officially be calling and using your new name. If they still call you by your old name, then you will not be able to benefit from this luck. This is the most important of all. If your new name isn't being used, then you will not be able to benefit from the new name.

Other than that, you just have to legally update all documents that have your old name to be in your new name.

Hope that helps.

Change of Namehttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/6188-change-of-name/Dear Fiona,
Frankly, with or without ba zi analysis, many people have opted to change their names.
In fact, name change (or for that matter) is pretty easy.
One only needs to go to a lawyer, ask for a "deed poll" service. And the lawyer will prepare a deed poll for effecting a name change. In Singapore, depending on the law firm, the service charge is around $150 to $200 for this change.
One can present this document to the National Registration Office to process a change of IC name.
Of-course, bank accounts etc.. should be updated with the name change. Also by presenting the copy of the deed poll to the bank or any institutions of borrowing. It is a legal copy that is widely accepted.
Under Chinese name change criteria, sometimes, we do not need to change our name but rather the character in a name.
Thus, sometimes, there can be a subsitute for one of our "bad" name characters with a similar sounding name. This could be that the new name has a better stroke.
Here, one may not need to effect a deed poll since, we still get to use a similar sound name.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

I am not fond of my Chinese name, should I consider changing it?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/9236-i-am-not-fond-of-my-chinese-name-should-i-consider-changing-it/

Dear Anon,

Name Stroke is one way to determine the luck of the name. But a good name stroke should also go with the name sound and name meaning. No point having a name that you do not like how it sounds.

Anonymous wrote:
Even thoughmy namehas got a good number in terms of its strokes, should I changeit becausei feel that it is difficult to pronoun and these chinese characters doesn't sounds good to me?

In general, our advise is no point changing once you reach an adult age. Simply because you will hardly use the full name especially if you have an western/english name. So really pointless to change if you hardly use it.

A name for a newborn will be extensively used especially in the school days. So that is why choosing a name for newborn is beneficial. But once you reach an working age, you are less and less likely to use your full name.

The name luck only impacts a small portion of your heaven luck area. So if you are changing just for the sake of improving luck, then no point. However, if you are changing because you really dislike it, then no harm.

In general, we do not usually advise changing a name unless it is really necessary.

Hope that helps.

Change of name https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/11080-change-of-name/

1. Please note that it is best to use the new name once it has been chosen or selected.

2. For example, if a person is known as : Richard Lim; but this person had changed his Chinese name to Lim Ah Kow. And if he still uses Richard Lim; comes to nought. Thus, if everyone still calls this person Richard... might as well forget about changing the name.

3. Usually, especially in Singapore; those who are serious would go to the a lawyer (attorney) for a deed poll to change the name.

With Simplified Chinese, the characters has reduced the number of character strokes. So would this impact our Chinese name? So does our Chinese name follow traditional strokes or simplified stroke?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/13355-with-simplified-chinese-the-characters-has-reduced-the-number-of-character-strokes-so-would-this-impact-our-chinese-name-so-does-our-chinese-name-follow-traditional-strokes-or-simplified-stroke/ I need advice from Geomancer expert.

I am from the traditional Chinese character generation but recent years Chinese characters has been change to simplified Chinese.

So now I have been puzzling, in my time the Feng Shui name were calculated using traditional Chinese character number of strokes.

With simplified Chinese, the characters has reduced the number of character strokes.

So would this impact our Chinese name?

Should we re-evaluate again our Chinese name based on the new simplified key stroke?

Using bazi 5 element calculation, will the name in simplified or traditional be affect?

So does our Chinese name follow traditional strokes or simplified strokes?

Hi,

Thank you for your forthright reply. I also read that the different characters of our name represent different periods of our lives e.g. our surname represents our childhood period whereas our middle and last name represent our mid and later part of the years, is that true?

As I realised that my earlier part of the years seem much better as compared to now and have met with various 'fortune tellers' who have encouraged me to change my name on and off but I have not really heeded their advice until I found out more abt the significance of one's name recently.

Thanks!

1. This is not a free service.

2. As you had mentioned that many people felt that your name dows not suit you, you may like to take note that:

Usually, names are selected when young i.e. at birth. If u susequently change to a new name, but will not use it, I personally don't see any use, here. For example, if u are in Singapore where the commercial language is English, and if u don't use the new mandarin name, frankly it is not much use changing the name.

The most effective is to use one's newly changed name. Further more, if one has a Christian name e.g. Christine, you will be usingthis more often!

What is covered under Name Selection service?https://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/15133-what-is-covered-under-name-selection-service/ 187606405_babynameselection.png.11dc0b565747ba99681daa2a70712873.png

Question: Can you advise what is covered under the naming service and how many names will be given for selection?

1. Thank you for your interest in our service. I will assist you on this portion, since I specialize in this area.

2. Usually, I will work out the best names available from various top name stroke groups (usually 80%-100% name stroke groups).

2.1 Depending on number of strokes of each group, some may have more 5-10, some may have less (1-5). But all in all there should be quite a lot of names available to pick from.

3. The names I normally match will be characters that are meaningful, so it will sound nice and have some meaning (if possible). However, should you not find a name you like from the groups, a character reference list is also provided, so that you can also match out other names you may like from the list to check if it is suitable.

4. So that you will have as much choice to find the most suitable name available, so as to help you find the best and most suitable name for your child.

5. In addition, if you have special requirements such as if you use family ancestral naming, I will can also find names restricting the say the middle character to that character.

6. Or if this is a 2nd/3rd child and you want to keep a certain middle or last character as a common sibling character. I will also work out names accordingly.

7. Or even if you have already some preferred names in mind, I can also check on those name and see how it fairs against the best available name stroke group.

8. So not to worry, it is quite a comprehensive process, often than not, there will be a lot of to and fro communication between the clients and me. As once I prepared the initial report, clients will take a while to go through and attempt to narrow down to the preferred name. Then when they have a list of preferred names, I will then summary the names in detail to give you the percentage breakdown of how the name fit to the ba zi, this way it will be easy to determine which is the most suitable name.

Hope that helps.

Warmest Regards
Robert Lee

Thank you very much for your

Prior to around 1968 even in Singapore, we use Traditional characters or "Big 5" instead of "Simplified Chinese" as found post 1968 schooling.
Thus following past tradition,Traditional Character stroke counts are used.
And usually use the kang xi dictionary stroke count as a default (if in doubt).
Andin today'ssimplified form; the count is 7 stroke characters for this surname.
As for traditional character stroke count sometimes can vary from dictionary and so forth.
But usually this character you mentioned isa common Chinese surname character. Andthus is usually considered as 11 strokes.
Therefore, following Tradition (Big 5); one should try touse 11 strokes for this surname instead of the simplified form which is 7 strokes.
Hope that helps.

Name analysis pleasehttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/11339-name-analysis-please/It is good that Taiwan wants to continue the tradition of making the Traditional Chinese characters alive!
Traditional Chinese characters are still used today especially for Chinese Name selection for new borns or those wanting to change their name(s).
Nowadays, China and even Singapore uses the simplified mandarin characters.

Name for my daughter - to be born this monthhttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/9767-name-for-my-daughter-to-be-born-this-month/

1. Authentic Chinese name selection is different from what you are doing.

2. What you are simply doing is just to check whether perhaps a name is auspicious especially also under numerlogy.

3. Authentic Chinese name selection goes like this:-

3.1 Child is born. Furnish Date and Time of birth to a geomancer.
3.2 Geomancer calculate child's ba zi. And recommend name(s).

Your "method" does not come anywhere close to this. Thus Chinese method is wait for ACTUAL birth of child, then......

What kind of meaning of a name 'Sinanhttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/9535-what-kind-of-meaning-of-a-name-sinan/

Dear Anon,

Once we (personally)find that a name has a "flaw", we should try to skip using the name unless it was given to us (usually) by our parents/grand parents.

Thus, there are so many Chinese characters and it is always easy to find a name that may "suit" us.

Unfortunately, the name stroke analysis was designed mainly for Chinese Names only. So there isn't analysis system that was converted for English Names.

There are however, some analysis that bases on the assignining each english alphabet with a five element. So probably it is still possible to use the number characters in the name in some way. But given, this is not a traditional analysis method, so there is no way anyone can tell if they can replicate an similiar calculation system similiar to the Chinese Name analysis.

Frankly, a name change isn't recommended especially once you reach a certain age. This is because the hassle involved and the effects you can expect from the name is not a great deal. In addition, if you don't use the name it is even less effective.

Usually a name is effective only when it is given from birth. As everyone will know and call you by the name. Thus, it is useful when you choose a good name for a baby.

You will find that if you focused on other areas such as your home, and enhancing your ba zi, you will reap a much greater amount of luck improvement than compared to a name change.

Often, I can tell you frankly, that I will strongly not advise a name change unless it is absolutely necessary or if a client truly insist on it.

The only problem I can tell you here is. There isn't a feng shui analysis concept for signatures. So it is your own guess as to how you can enhance your signature. Probably, by the shapes that you chose in your signature (if any).

Hope that helps.

Metal or Wealth nameshttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/5695-metal-or-wealth-names/Dear Clarence,
I am not sure, if one is aware of what is a "wealth" name.
Let me elaborate:-
1. For the Chinese, often is a child is born, a grand-parent or parent would often find a geomancy to look at a `suitable' name for a child.
2. For example, when my elder brother was born, my grandfather, went to see a geomancer. Under his ba zi, he is found to lack `water' element. Thus, one of his name contains water. Therefore, his `English' name has a Hokkien " Chwee " or water.
3. When my turn came, I was found to have balanced elements in my ba zi. Thus, my Chinese name has a " Tiong " or " middle/centre" which is symbolic of balance.
4. For example, please take a look at this Attached, sample chart:
balance-of-elements1.gif
4.1 Under this chart, one can find that I had produced various sections marked in RED: A, B, C.
4.2 S/No. A shows all of a person's elements: Year, Month, Day, Hour; House of Life and House of conception.
4.3 S/No. B shows what are one's favourable and unfavourable element. And what is one's wealth element.
4.5 Under the sample example, this person is considered as a "Strong Metal" person. And since he is a strong metal person; his wealth element is wood element.
5. But Wait! Under the Chinese name (Name naming convention): If one's wealth element is considered as a "wood element" it does not mean that one's name has to have the wood element.
6. One has to confirm with a check on how much each elements that we have. In this example, it is coincidental that this person lack wood. Thus, for the Chinese, one can find one's name with "wood" stroke or one character that has wood in the name to help to balance his chart.
7. In many situations, wood element may not be the correct element to use for one of the characters in a name. We often refer to the marking "C - Balance of Elements in Your chart" to confirm this.
8. Since the Five Elements is about balance; just because our wealth element is "wood" we must not have our entire name full of wood. If not, the child when he/she grows up may end up as A DEAD WOOD.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Pictures of dead relativeshttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/2874-pictures-of-dead-relatives/Dear Chere,
1. This has to do with beliefs.
2. Usually, a house should be `sufficently large' to place portaits. The portaits should preferable be of a reasonable size.
3. Neutral places to hang portraits are along the stairs leading up to the home. (Some people place them here).
Other locations are along e.g. study room or `library' room (if one has one).
4. Like the placement of figurines of deities, one should avoild placing them directly facing the entrance door - " acting like a guard " or letting the portraits face into rooms and especially on the same wall as the toilet bowl.
Otherwise, hanging the portraits above `chest' level is acceptable as opposed to leaving them on low cabinets within reach of pet animals or children.
5. For certain Chinese who perform ancestor worship, portaits of the deceased is commonly hang on the wall above the altar table.
These `special' portaits usually have the eyes of the portait `painted' during a ceremony e.g. during the burial ceremony and carried behind the back of the eldest son.
`Painting' the eyes of a person on the portrait synifies, giving `it' "vision".
For those who are interested, you can check out the pictures under
http://www.geomancy.net/mypictures/cgi-bin/imagesearch.cgi?img=0&search=burial&cat=all&x=12&y=11
Here, you get to see a portrait with the "eyes" of the deceased get painted during the burial ceremony.

Use of vowels to balance a namehttps://www.geomancy.net/forums/topic/1450-use-of-vowels-to-balance-a-name/Dear Anon,
In the traditional practice, Five Element has been tagged to only CHINESE CHARACTERS.
Thus it has been officially used for Chinese names only.
However, in recent years, some modern Feng Shui Practitioner has tried to employ these techniques in English Names. I believe I had also come across reading about this. And even some had converted some English names with Five Elements subsitutes.
Well, it is difficult to comment on something which has not be tried or tested or has any traditional implementation techniques.
So it may or may not work. But so long as whoever came up with this theory has sufficient understanding of the Five Element and applies them properly. Yes, it is possible to do so.
Only question you want to ask now is how true or accurate is it for the time being? No one really can say as it is not one of the traditional tried and tested formulas.
Warmest Regards
Robert Lee
